| JILIPARK Outrights | Outrights are bets on the final result of a whole competition, such as the winner of a tournament or league, rather than on a single match. |
| JILIPARK Parlay Meaning | A parlay joins two or more bets, called legs, into one ticket. |
| JILIPARK Sportsbook Meaning | A sportsbook is the part of a betting service that lists sporting events, sets odds on them and settles the bets. |
Handicap meaning in betting comes down to one idea: the sportsbook gives one side a head start so a lopsided match becomes an even contest. This page shows you how to read a plus or minus line and settle it in pesos. For the wider picture first, read how the Sports tab fits into a JILIPARK session and come back.
Handicap meaning in one worked example
A handicap bet has three parts: the team you back, the line attached to it, and the odds. Your team’s final score is adjusted by the line, and the adjusted result decides the bet. The match winner on the scoreboard does not matter on its own.
All figures below are examples, not JILIPARK odds. Suppose Team A is the strong side and the line is Team A -1.5 at decimal odds of 1.90, with a stake of PHP 500.
- Team A wins 3-0. Subtract 1.5 from its score and it still leads, so the bet wins.
- Your return is 500 x 1.90 = PHP 950, which is PHP 450 profit plus your PHP 500 stake.
- Team A wins 1-0. After the adjustment it trails, so the bet loses the PHP 500 stake.
- Team A draws or loses. The bet loses.
Plus and minus lines
A minus line is a burden on the favourite. A plus line is a cushion for the underdog. The number tells you how far the adjustment goes, and the sign tells you which way.
| Line you back | What it means | Wins when |
|---|---|---|
| Team A -1.5 | Team A starts 1.5 behind | Team A wins by 2 or more |
| Team B +1.5 | Team B starts 1.5 ahead | Team B wins, draws or loses by 1 |
| Team A -2.5 | Team A starts 2.5 behind | Team A wins by 3 or more |
| Team B +2.5 | Team B starts 2.5 ahead | Team B loses by 2 or less, draws or wins |
The two sides of one line are opposites. When Team A -1.5 wins, Team B +1.5 loses, and the reverse. That is the basic handicap logic, and it works the same in every sport.
Whole, half and quarter lines
Whole lines such as -1 can end level with the line, which is a push. Half lines such as -1.5 cannot push. Quarter lines such as -0.75 split your stake across the two neighbouring lines, -0.5 and -1.0.
Examples at odds of 1.90 with a PHP 500 stake on the favourite:
| Line | Margin of victory | Result | Profit or loss |
|---|---|---|---|
| -1 | 1 goal | Push, stake returned | PHP 0 |
| -1 | 2 goals | Win | +PHP 450 |
| -1.5 | 1 goal | Loss | -PHP 500 |
| -0.75 | 1 goal | Half win | +PHP 225 |
| -0.75 | 2 goals | Win | +PHP 450 |
| -0.75 | Draw | Loss | -PHP 500 |
The half win works like this. PHP 250 sits on -0.5 and wins PHP 225, and PHP 250 sits on -1.0 and is returned as a push. Total profit is PHP 225.
NBA handicap
An NBA handicap uses the same logic with points instead of goals, and the lines are larger because basketball scores run higher. A line such as Team A -6.5 means Team A must win by 7 or more points.
Take an example game that ends 108-100. Team A won by 8 points, so Team A -6.5 wins and Team B +6.5 loses. Move the line to 8.5 and the result flips.
| Example line | Final score 108-100 | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Team A -6.5 | Margin 8, covers 6.5 | Win |
| Team A -8.5 | Margin 8, short of 8.5 | Loss |
| Team B +8.5 | 100 + 8.5 = 108.5 beats 108 | Win |
NBA lines also move by whole points on the day, so read the number on the bet slip when you confirm the bet, not the number you remember.
Reading a handicap on the bet slip
The JILIPARK lobby has a Sports tab, and BTi is among the vendors listed in the lobby. What the tab offers on any day, including the sports, leagues, handicap lines and limits, is shown only there. Open the tab and read the bet slip before you stake.
- Open the Sports tab and pick a match.
- Find the handicap market and read the line beside each team.
- Check the sign: minus means the favourite gives points, plus means the underdog receives them.
- Enter a stake and read the potential return the slip shows.
- Confirm only when the line and odds match what you meant to back.
Handicaps and straight winner bets answer different questions. If you only want to pick a winner, read how a moneyline payout is calculated. To combine several lines in one ticket, see what a parlay is and why one losing leg sinks it. Bet only what you can afford to lose, and only if you are 21 or older.
FAQ
What is a handicap in betting?
A handicap is a head start added to or taken from a team's final score before the bet is settled. The side you back must still beat the line after the adjustment, not just win the match.
What does -1.5 mean in a handicap?
The team you back starts 1.5 behind. It has to win by two or more for your bet to win, because the half point removes any chance of a push.
What happens to a whole-number handicap if the margin equals the line?
The bet is a push and your stake is returned. Half lines such as -2.5 can never push, which is why they settle as a clean win or loss.
Where do I find handicap markets on JILIPARK?
Open the Sports tab in the lobby, pick a match and read the bet slip. The slip shows the line, the odds and the potential return before you confirm anything.
